The lighting is bright and does remind one of a beach scene. The black and white works so well as it lets our eyes notice the tones and the details of the different parts of the picture. Here's the thing that fascinates me John. Your focus is on the fence so not only do you have dof in the background but also with the grasses up front. That gives it amazing depth.
