The Eurasian Hoopoe is a passage migrant in both spring and autumn to my Island of Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. It is not a large bird only 9 to 10 inches long but has a wing-span of 30 inches. The crest which it raises when alarmed makes it very photogenic. When in flight the black and white striped wings makes it very conspicuous. The curved bill helps it to prod into the soil to extract insects. Photographed with Canon 5D and 500mm telephoto at f11, ASA 400 speed 200. #1705692
