Winter Birds - Tufted Titmouse
Uploaded: December 04, 2005
This shot was extremely difficult to come by because the dark bird was contrasted against an almost white sky. I guessed +1 EV and *still* had to do some lightening up in the RAW editor. I think it was well worth the trouble...
Taken with my new lens, the Sigma 70-200 EX (with 1.4x teleconverter): 1/400s f/5.6 at 280.0mm iso400.

Great capture, wonderful composition! #2152515Karen Slagle December 05, 2005
This is very nice. I love the soft brown tones and the bird is really pretty and soft. I've never been successful taking pix of birds, I can't sit still long enough, and can totally appreciate this image. #2153972Nicole Kessel December 05, 2005
Nice work, Bill! #2155903Bill K. Ko December 05, 2005
Thanks, Sherry and Nicole!Karen - the snow really lights them in wonderful ways. Someone (not here) said that I would have been better off using a fill flash, and ordinarily I'd say "yes," but I think it would have erased the soft glow coming from the ground...
