Description

Farmers with their farm machinery have been relentless. They transformed the Palouse into a landscape of softly rounded hills, sculpted valleys, and curvaceous arcs. They have claimed every parcel of land, tamed all wildness… and then they plant their undulating fields with wheat. The wheat grows and blankets the earth with luxuriant rich green growth that contrasts sharply with the newly plowed earth, and with the golden stubble from last year’s unplowed crop. Side by side by side in patchwork asymmetry the tapestry of the Palouse takes shape. The effect is best appreciated from above where the magnitude of the transformation is difficult to grasp. But it is a sight to behold.
