This is considered one of most famous of the museums exhibits. It is an automaton clock created by James Cox and presented to Catherine the Great by Prince Grigory Potemkin in 1781. It was shipped from England in pieces and took nine years to assemble. It is wound up and run at 7:00PM each Wednesday. The peacock tail flares and displays, the head moves and the cockeril crows. There is a youtube of this display go to google, type in Peacock Clock to find the link. Could not help the light flare on the glass enclosure so I left it for true effect.

It is well worth the 2 minutes to see this World Famous Exhibit Youtube video of the Peacock Clock. I wish I could have been there on Wednesday at 7:00 PM to see it in person. #1575264Marijana Fajgl June 04, 2014

Amazing that this fabulous clock took nine years to assemble bit by bit - what an engineering, as well as, an artistic feat! Fantastic capture - and I'm googling it as soon as I finish typing! #11060488Emile Abbott June 06, 2014
