Description

Looking up into the West Virginia State Capitol dome. Cass Gilbert designed the structure, completed in 1932. (He also designed the US Supreme Court building, and it directly incorporates a larger version of part of the WV Capitol chambers.) The central dome here the tallest dome on any American capitol building (exceeding the height of the US Capitol's dome by 5 feet.)

Thanks, ladies. Yes, the "ceiling" of the dome itself is remarkably dark; painted a deep, deep blue-black, with no direct lighting shining up into it. The huge crystal chandelier hangs quite a ways down below the hemisphere of the dome, although this perspective doesn't really convey that. #11071330
