California Juniper

This is a California Juniper from the Tehachapi Mountains. It is a couple hundred years old and has been cultivated as a bonsai by Kimura Bonsai in Northridge, California. I replaced the background with a texture from French Kiss that I applied gaussian blur to. I then rendered it into an oil painting using Snap Art 4.
As you can see in the image, you cannot see the back side/rim of the bonsai container. When I was at a bonsai exhibit in Los Angeles (Little Tokyo), one of the Japanese bonsai experts told me that that is the proper way to photograph them. I had no idea and was glad that he told me that before I started taking any pictures. Many people photograph these beautiful trees from a higher position, and he told me that angle did not produce the proper viewing of the trees. Now I understand why so many of the viewers were bending down low to look at them.
