I like the dark background and basic composition of this, Kalena. It's funny, with all the Daisy's I've seen and photographed, this is the first time I noted the spiral in the center. #1568610

Glad you like it!

You know, Dale, I didn't even notice the spiral in the yellow area. That's pretty cool!

Funny, when I saw this, I first thought it was one of Mike's. This is really nice, Kalena. The lighting is good, and the composition works well. Also fits Dale's challenge for the month. #11014487

Thanks, Jeff. I wasn't even trying for the challenge since a daisy doesn't really have a scent! Lol. But if it works, it's okay with me!

I liked the comp on this, too. It filled the frame nicely. It was one of the few plants not damaged by the Texas freeze about a month ago.

Jeff beat me to it. "Stop and smell the daisies".

Michael, I'm glad I was able to emulate one of your photos and do it justice. I just didn't know I was! lol

I appear not to have responded but could have sworn I wrote some long-winded essay yesterday commenting on the appropriateness of your choice of this beautifully rendered daisy to show us this month.
The daisy is the April birth-flower and has the flower-meaning of "simplicity, modesty, innocence, stability, sympathy and cheerfulness."
( I almost hesitate to mention this but probably not co-incidentally your name Kalena in some languages seems to mean 'pure or innocent' so if you don't at least blush a little now, I will scratch 'modesty' off the above list. lol
And Stephen, I was surprised to read that "stop and smell the roses" could be thought to orginate with Ringo Starr's album of that title. That they think that probably means they were born in the latter half of the last century and nothing of value existed for them before that time. The phrase and variations (ie "flowers") certainly existed long before then and I can recall my dear Nana telling me to stop going at everything like a "bull in a china shop and just stop and smell....." ie the task did not have to be rushed and that I should take pleasure in just doing it at a leisurely pace. I suspect with hindsight that meant do it calmly and not screw up so that it needed doing all over. But grannies didn't use language like that back then!

I just had to wait. And there it is:)

I love the composition of this Kalena. It is beautiful. I don't know if this would ruin the effect, but can you bring out a little detail or structure in the petals? #11016774

Kalena Randall April 03, 2014

Elaine, I could try to bring out the petals more, but I think it would mess up the gentleness of the flower, but I will try and see how it comes out.

The main subject of the daisy is the center which shows a spiral that Dale pointed out. My focus to bring out the details in the center of the flower.

Check out Michael's daisy at:

Note that his has different lighting than mine does which will render a different amount if detail. His looks to have a side lighting to it. The lighting for mine wasn't as good.

I'm glad you liked the shot. :-) #11017001
