Jeff,
I love this photo. I like the leading lines and the oval shape you light have made taking you into the photograph. Very nice.

Thanks Karen
I was concerned that the lines were too overpowering; but as you point out, the light reflections in the grooves pull into the focus. #10974468

Hi Jeff,
I love this photo too. As Karen said, the leading lines and the oval of light both draw us in to your subject, Diamond Head. And you captured wonderful colors in the clouds and the reflections. You've nailed photographer's time. Keep it up!

The lines aren't overpowering at all, since they lead us up and into the subject. The tall dark building on the left side, however, seems a bit heavy visually. (I'll say the same thing about your Golden Gate Bridge photo.)

There's a great book that explains visual balance and composition by Greg Albert: The Simple Secret to Better Painting. You can get it on Amazon.

You could also bring up the shadows a bit and maybe bring out the color. It's such a nice shot. Fun to play with :-)

Cheers, Roxie

Hi Roxie
Thanks for the helpful input on the photos; it is very much appreciated. I added a new version of this photo (v1b) with the colors pulled up a little by bumping the vibrancy. I see what you mean about the mass of the building on the left edge; in the new version, I cropped it out to see if it improves the focus on Diamond Head.
Thanks again for the help.
Best,
Jeff
