I agree with Gord. When I was a little girl dogs could roam the streets (of Rochester, NY) without supervision. My mother was terrified of dogs, and that fear was transferred to me. Whenever we encountered a "wild" dog, we jumped into each others' arms.

And then we had a family vacation at Wasaga Beach, Canada. Dogs were allowed on the beach with families. It was on THAT vacation that I was introduced to a wonderful (aren't they all?) Golden Retriever. That day marked the beginning of my life-long love of ALL dogs. Even Mom got over her terror on that day.
