Palace of the Winds

Description

Hawa Mahal translated into Palace of the Winds, built in 1799, is part of the City Palace in Jaipur, India. It is a 5-story, pyramidal shaped monument, uniquely decorated with intricate latticework; it's original intent was to allow the royal ladies to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen, since they had to observe strict "purdah" (face cover). It also acted as air conditioning allowing cool air to pass through.
