I took this on a foggy day and am wondering about the trees on the left that are leaning, I can't decide if they are distracting or what, need some help with this one. I am also adding a few others from the morning I took this #1559403

Dale Hardin January 13, 2014

Beth, these are all wonderful images and the leaning trees do not effect the first one at all since the main POI is straight.

However, all three could use a levels enhancement. Try simply moving the right slider on the histogram to the left until it is very close to the main body of data. You will not lose the appeal of the fog but will increase the brightness and contrast. #10945661

I was thinking it was too dark, too. So I like Dale's suggestion.

You might also try to simulate some light on your primary element to help it stand out more. #10945737

Thank you Dale and Stephen, I didn't realize they were that dark, but the levels adjustments really help.
Stephen, I tried to lighten the main tree in Solitude, but am not sure of the technique to do it. I used viveza and selected the one tree and brightened it. #10945949

Love the comp on these. Dale's suggestions really made them pop!

Yup, the edits look good.

My only challenge with the solitude image is that the tree is clipped on the top of the frame. Otherwise, looks good. #10946800

I agree with everyone that adding a bit of brightness to all the images works well. I think it is obvious that tall tree in the center is the one that matters and it's size difference really makes it stand out. I love moody images like these. And I really like Mountain Top View. I'll bet your fingers were cold out there. Good that you braved the inclement weather. Weather is a GOOD thing when trying to get great shots. #10946801

Thanks Kalena and Debbie. Jeff I clipped the top on the tree in all of the,m. I will have to reshoot on the next foggy day, which seems to be frequently around here. #10946885

Nice job Beth! The levels adjustment did help quite a bit but I think opening up the shadows a tad on Mountain Top View and Solitude would help bring out some more detail in the foreground of each. You could also clone out some branches on the top of Solitude to fix the clipping issue instead of doing a reshoot. #10947166

I have nothing to add Beth but am just enjoying the scenery. #10947834

Nothing else to add either... the revisions look great... if you can clone the tree so it doesn't look clipped... perfect. #10947896

Beth Spencer January 17, 2014

Thanks everyone. Tony I cloned some tree out and added some canvas so the tree is not clipped in solitude. I also opened shadows up in the 2 as suggested. #10948915

Glad to see the lighter versions which improved the shots a lot. I like the very last post the best (edit 2) – nice depth to the shot and the edits worked to bring it out. #10950473
