conceptual, nice colors..
The fence and the cylinder thing in the left-hand part are a little disturbing. I would try to find a more laconic picture
good luck

Thanks Mark. I guess I could of shot to the right and got rid of the grain bin and the farm, but I would have gotten the bathroom for the hikers in it and it was a lot closer and dark brown wood. :-) Those grain bins are all over Boulder County, Colorado. They are considered historical landmarks to Boulder County now. But, anyway, here's a couple links of those same tracks with different angles, exposure, fstops, whatever: http://silvercharm.digitalphotochat.com/gallery/ColoradoWinter2001/afm and http://silvercharm.digitalphotochat.com/gallery/ColoradoWinter2001/afn One just a little bit more to the right without the grain bin and the other behind me facing east. That's a great thing about digital cameras you can try all kinds of things just for one shot. :-) #4969

In my completly untrained eye, I like the fence and the farm in the background. Takes all kinds I guess.

Thanks Don. I'm guessing Mark lives in a big city so doesn't know much about farms and doesn't like them either. :-) #4974

Actually I live in a small town, and believe me, I love farms, old barns, and all other country things, which can be amazingly photogenic. However, this picture is not about farms at all. Severe snowy landscape and the railroad going into infinity can be a strong philosophical allergory.. it brings thoughts. The grain bin bugs me because it does not let these thoughts flow (it is a stranger from a different frame).. I know I am sounding quite meticulous and critical, but the picture is worth of discussion, and generally I feel very positive about it. #4985

Thanks Mark and sorry for assuming you lived in a big city because of what you called the grain bin. I did't know what they were until I moved to Colorado. It was country where I grew up in California, but it was ranches there with cows, horses and strawberries being the main products. Now twenty years later instead of growing in population with houses like most California cities on the coast, the area is now full of grapes. :-) Also because of the weather you can't see them, but there are mountains there. I took a shot later when it cleared up of the fog, but the snow wasn't as nice by then. What did you think of the other two versions I showed? Thanks. #4986

Mark V. Fedkin January 26, 2002

Lisa, the other two versions look more impressive to me, especially the one with rails overgrown by grass. The snow texture on the plants definitely enhances the foreground (that would be my pic of the three - imho, maybe subjective)

Thanks Mark. Maybe I will enter that one next month. #4996
