Well all I can say is, thanks, everyone! (I was stunned to see so many email notices waiting for me this morning--how did everyone find this photo? I was starting to thing that the free galleries didn't seem to get as wide an audience, by default.)
I've taken a *lot* of shots in this cathedral, and the lighting is often a challenge, since there is spot lighting via lamps, but sunlight in most other places. This is my earliest-morning shot so far, on a very clear, bright day, and I think that really helped! #2040715

I still struggle with capturing it properly, given the vast shadowy spaces, mixed with intense sunlight, but this shot at least eliminates the high soaring ceiling of the main aisle, and stays reasonably well-lit. #2049141

Don, thanks for the comments! (Here, and on the other photos, today.) I'll look up the specific camera settings for this shot, when I get home. But I can say that I didn't "do" anything else---no filters used, etc.
It is a relatively early-morning shot (probably around 9:20 or so, shot before the cathedral was opened to the public that day---a perk as a volunteer there!) and the morning sunlight, on a bright day during late fall, is simply like nothing else the rest of the year! #2474702

Thanks, Rebecca! For the cathedral, it is hard to go wrong anytime, but morning slightly edges out the others, in my opinion (except perhaps a terrific sunset on the West Rose Window!) And with the sun staying lower in fall/winter, that is all the better for the stained glass... But with so many massive windows on all sides, it really is beautiful all day!
Still, in non-cathedral settings, early morning & sunset light are simply like nothing else...Magic hours! #2537121

I was wondering how on EARTH I missed this photo, then I saw the posting date! This is absolutely marvelous!!! You really did catch this at a Magic Hour, Christopher! And I am also wondering why that oval isn't GOLD, as I'd have picked it for a Winner, had I been a judge! Photography to me, has always been an endless quest for Perfect Light; and boy, you really found it here! (Barring that, I'll lend a little help to Nature with the aid of Photoshop when and where I can but there is no substitute for the Reality when it's as grand as this!).
