Sorry about that-I was feeling pretty ill this am and just wanted to get this up before they started losing...

ISO 800, 300mm, f/5.6, 1/400 sec. This was initially very underexposed-I had a very tough time with the white uniforms. I figured I would crank up the ISO, use the widest aperture to freeze the action, and tried to keep the shutter speed 1.5x the focal length. My thought process was to expose for the white uniforms, then lighten everything else up. I had a lot of trouble with the WB-the red dirt gave me a lot of trouble.

This was my Tamron 100-300mm lens-about $350, so I can't complain about the quality-better than I expected. I was thinking about renting a better lens, but didn't know if they would let me in with it, especially since they won't let you in with a tripod (monads are ok).

We were VERY fortunate to be sitting in a loge close to behind home plate. #10854435

I wasn't thinking at all about lens quality or even possible color cast, Elaine. I think the shot turned out really well. We don't take and show a lot of sports shots in this club, so knowing how to get them when we want them is useful.

I like the wide angle with the sky and sunset, too, although that may really have color cast and maybe a little over-saturation.

Were these post-processed RAW images or JPG image? I think you imply RAW in your response above. #10854651

Thx everyone. I shot these in RAW, so I knew I had more wiggle room with the underexposed images. My main goal was to aim for a faster shutter speed for sharpness. I figured that would not be as fixable as noise and exposure. Was I thinking correctly? I think in my previous post, I misstated a wide aperture would lead to sharpness-not so. Wide aperture, more light, faster shutter. Fever is gone today-feeling much better:)

Feel free to be critical of these photos. This is how I learn!

Stephen-I'll go back and look at the saturation for the field photo-the sky was really amazing that night!

these are great pictures Elaine, each one of them is very nicely captured. I agree with Stephen your full field one need a little color cast adjustment or white balance. do you have the nik filter if so I would give a shot through the white neutralizer or remove the color cast one. see what happens. that sky is beautiful. this one is my favorite out of the three. #10854911

Nice work on all of these Elaine. I really like the shadows on the first post. The Field is a great shot for place and time. I think the field (only) could be sharpened and brightened, considering the bright lights of the field, but leaving the fans and the sky as is.

Well-I almost bagged it, because I can't see the color cast anymore...

So I have to thank you Rita, for recommending using the nik filter-I have never opened up the Color Effex (don't read this Beth!), and it looks like I have more toys to play with now:)

I used the white uniforms with this neutralizing tool-there is definitely a difference, let me know if this is what you had in mind.

And I did lighten up and sharpen the field too.

Whoops-one more question-there is a Nik filter for "remove color cast" and one for "white neutralizer". What's the difference between these? It sounds as if they would do the same thing... #10855692

Color Efex Pro 4 has both a "remove color cast" and a "white neutralizer" filter. They are towards the bottom of the list.

I like your edits of the Field a lot, Elaine. I would just add a bit of contrast to the field to bring out the green and orange and enhance the little shadows.

Elaine! I have used the Color Effex Pro for a while and I didn't even ever notice these 2 filters. So I can't say anything to you about the filters. :)
Hope you are feeling better! I really like the edit of Feilds, beautiful color.
You did a great job of getting the action shot. It is even straight which I can't manage most days with a tripod. #10855982

Susan-I just increased the contrast for the field only-I think it looks better, but not sure if it brought out the shadows enough. What do you think?

I did listen to the tutorials for "remove color cast" and "white neutralizer". I think I understand. You'd use white neutralizer to make some thing that is supposed to be white, white, which is what I used on the field-I used the correction on the whole picture. With remove color cast, you need to know what color you want to remove. I'll have to keep these in mind.

Looking good, Elaine. I think you could do a slight adjustment on the field only with the Levels sliders. I think the grass and the dirt could be slightly more vibrant. Nothing drastic.

The shadows are so tiny, I think they will just come along with any other adjustment you do. With the field lights, there probably aren't many shadows to worry about.

I use Color Efex quite a bit but have favorite filters for what I do and don't explore as much as I should. #10858499
