Colorful garden snail

Description

These creatures are extremely small and are actually fast moving considering that they slime about with a shell on their back.Iv'e seen them with spots and stripes and in shells made of a lot of different colors. The purple,yellow and white striped ones are my favs.Not an easy subject to photograph either but I like them.They have been around forever and really know how to survive.

Donna in what state is this? I have never seen a snail with such a beautiful shell! All the snails I see in California are boring brown, how nice that you have colorful snails.

Hi Liz, I live on the opposite shore in central NJ.
. Check out the low lying areas that are prone to flooding conditions during hard rains. They are the only places that I've seen the amazing colors and patterns. The snails emerge early in the morning in the summer when the dew in covering everything and also during foggy mornings. Also, they live near flower gardens.
