Description

This is for Ken Smith... this is as close a landscape image I have for you without going searching through my archives.
I'm not even sure if it is in the right category :)

I had to remove thousands of mosquitoes from this image. It's 14 mile hike to Lake Beautiful in Strathcona Provincial Park, Vancouver Island, BC. Elevation 1634 ft.
I'm glad I live were I do as we don't have mosquitoes at sea level. :)

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!!

Hey Sharon, you did great! And a 14 mile hike? Now that's more extreme than me! :-) Keep those landscapes coming...and watch out for those Canadian mosquitoes! :-) #1533422

Thank you Ken. I'm so glad you like it.

Before I went up to Strathcona Park I did my own personal boot camp to get myself into shape.

I made a huge mistake when I was younger thinking I could just go snow skiing without strengthening my legs first. Big mistake... fractured a disk in the middle of my back when I wiped out and almost took out five other skiers with me. I lost control of my skies and went full speed straight down hill the slope yelling get out of the way. You know that nice, white fluffy snow.. well it was nothing like that... it was like landing on pavement as it was solid ice. Never ever will I try skiing again.

Oh yes! First day up the mountain was not so good... hiking boots didn't work as well as my sneakers. There after it became quite easy as I hiked up a different trail with more comfortable footwear.

You have to remember us oldtimer Canadians had to walk to school in rain, sleet and snow for 10 miles just to get to elementary school. LOL Now I sound like my mother :) No one was holding my hand either... I was all by myself. It sure is a different world, isn't it?

I remember somewhere reading that you hiked into the canyons in a whole bunch of water for one of your photo shoots. That's pretty extreme to me!!!

Don't go way up north or into the mountains of BC if you don't like mosquitoes or black flies... they are monsters & brutal!!! In Banff the mosquitoes got me right through the fabric of my blue jeans. In Prince George area the black flies took chunks out of my skin. It's a wonder I'm still alive.

Bring plenty of bug spray and a baseball bat if you ever plan on adventuring into the Great White North.

Oh yes, wear something on your backpack that bangs against your pack making a noise as you walk so the bears hear you coming. If you just come upon them quietly, you may startle them & then you could be in big trouble. Now you know why boy scouts sing around the campfire... it's for protection. :)

So now you know why you don't see a lot of landscape images from me. It's dangerous, eh! LOL

Don't tell Laura Swan I told you all this. I think she thinks this is normal... she lives in Banff. :)

HAVE A GREAT WEEK AND HAPPY SHOOTING!!! #10743052
