Description

Spring brings to life the famous collection of thousands of Japanese cherry trees planted around the Tidal Basin area.
The original planting of some 3,020 trees given by Japan took place in 1912; another gift of 3,800 was planted in the 1960's.
Cuttings and budwood from the original gift trees have been used to help Japan restore some of its own cherry groves.
Peak blooming this year is estimated for April 3 - 6.
