Description

There are many wonders to delight the senses in Antarctica. The animal viewing and animal/human encounters are like nowhere else, but for me the greatest attraction is The Ice. Floating icebergs are a wonder, visible everywhere on an unimaginable scale. Born of countless glaciers, they break off and start their water-borne journey. Each is unique in size and shape when calved, but it is the work of the warmer sea water that carves and sculpts these monoliths into fantastic shapes. This berg is estimated to be half a kilometer wide and a few hundred meters high; it has floated out to sea farther than many others. The backdrop of evening light and billowy clouds show off a striking silhouette carved like a city skyline.
