ok...I finally did it! IT was not only a raw and cold afternoon, but I shot in RAW all day. This isn't much of a photo per say...but when it came out of the camera it was very muted and grey. I played around with levels and curves and this is what I came up with! I think I get what you where trying to tell me about RAW!...finally... #1492750

Yea Kristin! I shot in RAW and JPEG this weekend and the difference between the two in some photos was amazing. I especially saw a huge difference when photographing the trees. I was able to see much more detail in the dark trunks. It is neat to compare these two formats side by side. #10372649

double Yea! Kristin just keep at it when you really begin knowing all the in's and out's of ps that is when you will be able to really see the benfits.

this is a great image I like how the water lead through the image, I really like the different shapes of the tree going around the bend. you capture the fall colors very nicely #10372702

Kristin, this is as well constructed an image as pretty much anything posted here. I wouldn't downplay it. There are few thing that could be done to improve it...I'm sure someone will mention them...but that isn't the point here.

Congratulations, Kristin, and to you Elaine, for taking the plunge.

I echo Stephen's statement. A step in the right direction. You both already are good photographers, so this change simply means you now have another tool to help you. #10372779

Yup, nothing to be ashamed of here. Congrats on the big step! #10372812

Kudos to you Kristin! I remember taking the step to shoot in RAW, but now I won't shoot in anything else :)
after commenting on Rita's Welcome Pumpkin, I see the S curve nicely layed out in your photo. Great fall colors too.

Thank you all! Elaine, this photo was taken at a Bird Sanctuary...but we didn't see any birds...not even the chickadees who are so tame they eat seed out of your hand. Of course the huge storm that rolled in shortly after this photo was taken may have had something to do with the lack of wildlife! #10373217

Where? I can't remember where you live:) #10373466

Very nice composition and color. I am so glad you decided to take the plunge into RAW. The slight benefits you are starting to see will multiply as you develop a RAW color work flow in your editing. All of this will eventually become second nature and you will look back at your jpegs and wish that you had shot them in RAW. I know that I have a few from my first digital days that I sure wish I had taken in RAW. #10373541

Horray Kristin!!!! :~) A very pretty shot for your first RAW....good job on bringing the colors out, but not going too far with it. I want to know what those yellow balls are in the sky though! #10374762

Kristin Duff October 18, 2012

Haha Aimee...those are falling leaves. It was very windy and it was snowing leaves. I had forgotten that when I was working on the photo! First I cleaned my computer screen thinking it was something on the computer. then I went and looked at my lens to make sure there were no raindrops on it and that's when I started to laugh! I had used a fast shutter speed hoping to catch some leaves falling...but I think I needed more leaves to make the point! #10374878

You've convinced me Kristin! I will try to shoot in RAW also. Very nice photo #10375475

Beautiful shot, Kristin. I agree with Stephen, this is right up there with the caliber of the the group and I don't see anything I would change. You don't always get a beautifully saturated sky. This is autumn. Enjoy all the skies for their own uniqueness. Those cloudy days yield some amazingly saturated colors as you have certainly demonstrated here. #10375508

LOL I was thinking they were yellow balloons. :~) #10376184
