The Red Cross

Uploaded: October 15, 2005

Description

F/7.1, 1/2000th, 49mm, ISO400, Daylight, 0ev.

Detail of a 4-figure sculpture (3 Red Cross workers carrying an injured flood victim) on the grounds of the American Red Cross headquarters in D.C.
In PS: converted to greyscale, then returned to RGB. Added red to the patch on his arm (there is no red on the actual sculpture.) Gaussian blurred background slightly. See Erik Bjers' "Help" for a really cool re-do of this shot and effect!

Another excelent photo, I love the grey scale with the red accent (exactly what I would have done). #342967

Thanks, Erik. This is one I might try to reshoot and re-do. I was on a photo safari that day, and didn't have a lot of time at this sculpture. Now, I wish I'd shot it to get more of the other 3 figures in it! #2068380

I like it as is, I think the loan figure is excellent. This should be on an add for the Red Cross.

I hope you don’t mind, but next time I’m wondering around DC I plan on duplicating this shot. (After all imitation is the best form of flattery.)

By all means... I constantly see pics online here, that make me think about taking similar shots, or inspire me to try a new one. This sculpture is in the "back yard" of the ornate Red Cross building that faces onto 17th Street. Let me know when your version is done! #2068393

Will do, thanks for the location info. I will probably seek it out next weekend, but I may be out of town and it may have to wait a few weeks.

I think I may try colorizing the entire arm band, that way it will be different from yours.

I don't remember if his other arm has a band too... when we arrived, the sun was on this side, so the far side was too dark---but that is where all the action is (the injured flood victim, etc.) Good luck! #2068404

I just uploaded my one of my pictures from this statue (same angle as yours). I did about an hr worth of editing on it (and didn’t even notice the time going by.) There will be more from this statue to come in the next few days.

I hope you like my version.

Hi Erik... I can't find it in your gallery...? #2070731

Erik Bjers November 13, 2005

Forgot, I'd reached my 30 pic limit, had to remove one so I could show it. SHould be there now. #2070815

OK I just added another shot from the other side of the statue. I submited it twice (once with a blurred background).

Which one do you like better? #2071500
