I did a bunch of these today and here is one more with a different point of view, not sure which I like the best. #1479754

Coo! Number 2 is my preference. the background flower fills up more space and the droplets are really interesting to look at-they are distorted in a cool way. Did you have a plate of glass in front of this flower? Love it! #10270679

Beth Spencer August 10, 2012

Thanks, It was over the flower, but I couldn't get all the drops to be round. #10270832

Did you clean the glass extra well and put rain-X on it? Super clean and level with get you the round drops. #10270842

Beth Spencer August 10, 2012

I didn't have any Rainx, so I tried some windshield cleaner and then some silicone spray, but I am thinking I may have to get some rain x .

Oh Beth, I like these and am totally intrigued as to what the set up was to achieve these effects. #10270946

Hard to choose between these. In the first post, the center drop with the well-formed flower anchors the first picture. The progression of off-center and increasingly distorted reflections as you move away from the center provides explopding motion. I think it could be cropped just a little on the left and bottom.

The second is a great abstract.

I think I prefer the 2nd because of its simpler pattern and brighter colors. #10270968

Very cool Beth...I prefer the 1st pose because it has a 3D appearance to it. To me the it looks as though the drops are on a spherical surface and I'm wondering how you achieved that.. #10270984

Very cool Beth. How did you come up with this? I like it a lot.

I prefer the second shot with the cleaner look to it. Love the detail and distortions. Could look at this for a long time - cool and refreshing in this hot weather. #10271743

Fantastic, Beth! I like the second over the first, but they are both cool! #10272187

So cool! I like the 1st one best because I love how the centre's flower drops are framed. #10272267

Thanks everyone, the set up is very easy. I had a piece of glass I put up over a flower . I had a small flower in a very small vase and put some complementary color around it.
The glass is suppose to have been treated with rainx, but I didn't have any so I tried some windshield fluid we had and some other stuff, like spray cooking oil that didn't work. Then I sprayed the glass with water and tried to shoot straight down with my macro.
Not having the rain-x made my drops different sizes and shapes. I just played around till I got some I like. I am getting some rain x so may try Monday when I am off. I shot these in a room that had plenty of light so no flash. #10272282

We did this kind of stuff as a group a few years ago and while the setup sounds easy getting a good focus and comp. wasn't....at least not for me. It does look like your focus isn't exactly on the water drops....maybe it was on the glass? I like the 2nd image because it has some unusual shapes in it. :~) #10273940

Teresa H. Hunt August 13, 2012

My favorite is the second image. I like the funky shapes of the water drops. Also, I love that the drops look like they are floating.

Hummm . . . I might have to try this sometime. #10274228

I got some rain x and did a re-shoot.. It works better to make round drops. so here are 3 more and then I am going to start getting stuff together for DC. I wish everyone could go!! #10275787

Aimee C. Eisaman August 14, 2012

I like the middle one of your latest posts....there is a hair or something on the right side of the image though. :~) I hope you have a safe trip and great time in DC! #10275906

Beth Spencer August 14, 2012

Yes it is probably a dog hair, not much escapes them around here. I removed it for you...
You have a great time with your husband. We will miss you. #10276152

I know that I comment on this but not sure where it went. I really like your last post. the rain x really help it alot. look like fun, next time I am out I will have to get some and play around.

have fun this week end. #10279925

The last shot is great-kind of reminds me of those glass paperweights with the flowers inside-I love those:)

Did you learn to do this in a class? Really cool. #10281947

Aimee C. Eisaman August 22, 2012

Yes I've had pets growing up so I know how that goes. :~) We had a great time...I went parasailing (so excited about that). #10285688
