Strictly prohibited to pedestrians

Uploaded: July 22, 2012

Description

f/20.0, 1/125s, 18mm focal length, ISO 100.

Created at Aiguille Du Midi above Chamonix, France; launching point of Mont Blanc climbers. Photo was taken at 7:38 am. on July 12, 2012. It is unlikely that these alpine climbers were aware that 2 hours prior to their departure an Avalanche on Mount Maudit, which they will pass on their way to the Mont Blanc summit, claimed the lives of 9 climbers and injured 12. The victims most likely started from this point a day or two prior to this team. My heart goes out to the family of those who lost their lives... may they find a little solace in the fact that they died doing what they loved.

Exif: F Number: 20, Exposure Bias Value: -0.33, ExposureTime: 1/100 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 18.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 7D

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss and injuries of the earlier climbers. This is a dramatic image. Stunning! #10241018

A dramatic story-telling photo on its own, with a sad, poignant "rest of the story" to go along with it. Nice capture. #10241626

Thank you all for the kind words. It certainly hit home to be so close to this tragedy....and beauty. #10242783
