This is pretty nice, Kristin. My only suggestion is if you have the room on the right side to keep from clipping the edge of the feather, I'd adjust your crop. Otherwise, I think it looks good.

I'm curious, is there a story behind the feather and your son? #1472131

Dale Hardin June 30, 2012

Simply lovely Kristin. The soft tones and equally soft image work perfectly.

Normally I'd agree with Jeff's suggestion (it's a very valid one) but in this case I don't think it matters so much because the feather is also clipped on the left which balances the composition. #10207859

hi Jeff, there is no room to adjust the crop and I agree with you, I should have moved a bit. As for feathers, after Joey died feathers kept popping up all across my path; this one literally fell from the sky and landed in my lap so I saved it. I was trying to do a high key shot with the feather for my close up course the other night: I set up my shot when the phone rang and I was distracted for a few minutes. My cats got hold of the feather and chewed it a bit. My beautiful feather from the sky now literally looked like something the cat dragged in. I felt the way the feather looked, a bit worse for wear, especially after this past year but still beautiful in it's own right. p.s. this was the long version :) #10207860

I like it a lot and the clipping doesn't bother me for the reason Dale mentioned...that's a touching story behind the feather, this must be an unimaginably difficult time for you. #10208179

I am so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine how difficult this time must be for you. This image is beautiful and almost looks surreal. Do you mind me asking what you used for a background? It is such a gorgeous, peaceful image to me. #10209108

I am sure this hasn't been an easy month for you. I love the feel of this I can almost feel a little breeze on it. I like it just as is....!! thanks for sharing with us, it always amazes me the tone is beautiful...I am interested in knowing what you used for the background. #10209180

Kristin Duff July 01, 2012

Thank you all. For the background I used a, are you ready for this, paper towel. #10209613

I hope you made it through your 1 year mark ok. For me the second year has been worse than the first, and I hope you are doing ok as you begin your second year.

This is a beautiful photo. I love the coloring and peacful feeling. I do wish the feather wasn't clipped, but it works the way it is too.

Were you able to save the feather?

I have 2 charms on the side of my camera with my boys names. I lost one in South Dakota last summer and nearly had a melt down. Luckliy my friend's son found it. It's crazy the things we cling to when our children are gone. :( #10210584

Hi Teresa, yes I still have the feather and a few more to boot. Found another this morning! #10210979

Hi again. About that paper towel-is that the true color of it or did you adjust this during processing? Just curious-I love the softness of it. Hope this question isn't annoying-I can't tell yet what is "real" and what isn't. Wow, things have changed since film.... #10212002

Kristin Duff July 03, 2012

No, there were no adjustments Elaine...it was supposed to be a high key shot. It was taken indoors under artificial light. I was frustrated because I couldn't get the colour out of it...glad now that I didn't! #10212283

Elaine Hessler July 03, 2012

It is a really cool picture-it looks so surreal to me-that is why I had to ask. Thank you.

I must say that I love this image....the simplicity and imperfection of it is thought provoking. I also love the colors. I can't think of anything that would make this better. I do hope that you have this one printed! :~) I'm glad that you are blessed by such simple things! #10213695

Kristin Duff July 05, 2012

Once again, thank you and Aimee I have had it printed and it turned out splendidly! #10215849
