Cool! I've often wondered why they put them on churches... #10193927

Thanks, folks!
Carol, there are a few schools of thought regarding the placement of fanciful (and often fearsome) gargoyles and grotesques on gothic churches... One suggests it stems from early church practices to "give the pagans something familiar-looking" by adopting imagery and dates from older pagan practices into the (relatively new) Christian church. Another, more high-minded one suggests the grotesques and monsters appear outside, representing the fact that evil has been purged from within the holy spaces, leaving them pure and perfect. A third blends some of both explanations - the grotesques and gargoyles are outside as frightening symbols to ward off evil from the cathedral. #10195327

Dear Photo Friend: I feel that something has changed at Better Photo but cannot tell you just what has happened. I have been here since 2003 and most every month I have written to all the winners telling them how their work touches me. I have witnessed photographs that bring tears to my eyes and colors that are unbelievable, now I am worried that like all good things that it will not be here the next time I look.
But the feeling of not being able to congratulate all the winners for the hard work, and sharing their talent with all of us makes me so sad.
However it turns out and even if this is the last time I have this privilege, to let you know how exceptional your work has been, please know that I will never forget.
CONGRATULATIONS to all of you for the month of February, 2013, I send my very best to you always, Merna Nobile #10664725
