The flip tip: When I have a photo with an off-center composition I always flip it horizontally to see if it looks better to me than the way I shot it. Like my post today it seemed better with the blue larkspur flower on the right than the left. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m right handed or read text left to right? Of course it won’t work if there is actually text in the photo. If the photo is a full frame reflection I always check to see what a vertical flip looks like also. So don’t forget to flip over your best photos. #39577

Great image and job, Murry! How do you flip them? #115102

Judith G. Secco May 26, 2019

This is one beautiful image, Murry.

I've heard of flipping photos before and have tried it on occasion. It's funny how it really does make a difference in some cases. I just love this composition. Outstanding. #115106

Charlene Bayerle May 26, 2019

Either way Murry, it's a great shot. And the color of the flower is outstanding! #115108

Kathleen Clemons May 26, 2019

Nicely done Murry, love that blue. I flipped the lilac shot I posted today too! #115109

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Joy and Judy. In Photoshop7 select Image>Rotate Canvas>Flip Canvas horizontally (or vertically). #115117

Theresa McCloskey May 26, 2019

I like it flipped to the right also - nice coloring on flower. #115119

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Char and Kathleen. #115121

Shirley L. Carpenter May 26, 2019

I really like this one Murry, it's great........I like the flower better on right side also....... #115127

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Theresa and Shirley. I wonder if any lefties out there like it better on the left? #115129

Colette M. Metcalf May 26, 2019

Hi Murry, Learning alot here! Love the blue!! #115147

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Colette. #115149

Jill Battaglia May 26, 2019

I'm a lefty, Murry, and I also prefer the flipped version. I flip sometimes too. Just gotta watch out for "words" that would appear backwards. Love the colors and comp in this! Nice work. #115177

Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019

Beautiful shot, Murry! I like the flipped version, too! The color of the flower really stands out against the earth tones of the clay pots! #115186

Gina Harmeyer May 26, 2019

I really like this too! I think the flipped version flows better because we read from right to left, so this just seems to flow in the direction you would expect it to. Make sense? Very nice contrast too! #115187

Darren K. Fisher May 26, 2019

I like your title along with your composition. Well done job Murry!! #115188

Jeff Robinson level-deluxe May 26, 2019

Murry, flipping the image is a great idea with one. The blue color is awesome with the clay pots and really makes the picture! You always have great ideas and I look forward to seeing what else you have up your Photoshop sleeve! #115195

Ellen Peach level-classic May 26, 2019

I'm a lefty too and I like the original, but of course it looks great both ways! #115243

Sharon E. Lowe level-addict May 26, 2019

Great job Murry - beautiful image and having the flower on the right was the way to go on this one!! #115254

Leanne M.E. Boyd May 26, 2019

Thanks for the tip Murry. I like the texture of the teracotta pots, with the blue flower. Great colour and composition, as well. #115255

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thank you, Jill, Cathy, Gina, Darren, Jeff, Ellen, Sharon, and Leanne, for your comments and input. Jill, you're right about any text in a flipped shot will turn out backwards. Hmmm, maybe you could do a mirror shot without a mirror. This is more fun that basket full of puppies! #115264

Claudia Kuhn level-classic May 26, 2019

Wow Murry - Never tried the flip! Since I looked at the flipped version first I like it better, but if you hadn't done it I would have liked it anyway! Thanks for sharing your tip! Love the composition and deep blue color of the flower. #115277

Jimmy Wen May 26, 2019

very nice focus range, Murry! beautiful DOF & details. personally, I like the top one, because I want to pick the flower to put in my vase(i'm right handed). #115284

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Claudia and Jimmy. #115291

Carolyn M. Fletcher level-classic May 26, 2019

I like it better flipped, also, but never think of doing it myself. My old shadow of the cat on the door shot would have been better flipped since he was facing left.. Maybe I'll do that. #115319

Gary W. Lake May 26, 2019

It's funny - I'm right-handed too but I like it with the flower on the left better I think - although both are wonderful images! #115377

Murry Grigsby May 26, 2019

Thanks, Carolyn and Gary. Give it a try Carolyn--nothing to lose :0) Gary I really don't know if it has anything to do with being right or left handed. I think the one you see first is usually the one you like best--you're just wierd I guess :0) I always wear a baseball cap and I've had friends walk right by me when I'm not wearing one. #115388

Joy Brown May 26, 2019

I like them both ways, Murry and thanks for the great info!!! #115410
