Weary

Description

Another of the wonderfully expressive 'portrait heads' adorning the badly-damaged grand pinnacle of the cathedral's south portal.
Carved some 50 years ago, the limestone has developed a fantastic weathered texture.

So very much character in these faces - I cannot believe the work and genius that went into these. Too bad they are in a spot where few can ever enjoy them - and lucky for us that you are able to bring them to us. #10128845

Thanks so much folks!
Nikki; they are very high up, alas. But visible with binoculars or a zoom lens. (There are plenty more carved details, even higher than these---I'm always amazed by that; how highly-designed and carved every inch of the building is, including 300' up in the air at the utmost top.)
Carol; it is indeed carved! The cathedral has a wealth of amazing, hand-carved figurative art. Essentially, the entire building is hand-carved! #10130441
