British Waters

Description

400/1 @ F22. ISO 400.

Placed a print of the Union Jack under a bowl of water and then filled the bowl to about an inch deep with water.

Had to use strong lighting to get a high enough shutter speed at F22.

Cropped in photoshop. Also had to clone out the odd bit of dust that was floating in the dish.

Congrats Darren.. this is a wonderful image and very deserving of the finalist. I like how the flag image looks like it's wavy and how the drop caught the image of the flag on the way back up.. wonderful job. I have been meaning to try this and I think you may have inspired me to give it a go .. Good luck in the next round :~) #1981316

What lens did you use, and what mode on your camera. How far was your lens zoomed in? Also, what kind of light did you use. This picture is amazing. #2045583

Darren Smith November 07, 2005

Thanks for all the generous feedback folks.

Scott, I used the kit lens for this one (18-55mm) zoomed all the way in.

The light was strong daylight from a patio door along with a reflector. Also the flag was printed on white glossy paper and this helped reflect even more light.

I had to use Aperture Priority for the shot as I wanted as much depth of field as possible, I went with F22 as this still game me a reasonable shutter speed.

Glad you liked it, thanks
