I am currently working on similar things...shots in nature with very short depth-of-field. Channel mixer is an interesting tool, but I have been experimenting with moving channels into layers and adjusting layer MODE to the advantage of the image -- something channel mixer will not do. Calculations comes close, but is inflexible. I tried converting your color image using my B&W conversion method, and enhanced it with a levels correction to take full advantage of the tonal range and added a little soft focus and sharpening. See what you think. A little more impressionist, perhaps, but it pulls in the other leaves rather than loosing them in the shadow. #1898363
