The Making of 'Fishing is for the Birds':

The afternoon was extremely bright and very windy when I arrived at Tacking Point. I saw the opportunity of a decent beachscape down below on the beach but the glare from the lowering sun, the water and the sand plus the windy conditions made it a real challenge.
I gave up on using a tripod because of the vibrations caused by the wind even when I used my heavy camera bag as an anchor so I went down the slope a bit and sat with my knees drawn up and made myself a camera support. My rifle shooting days in the army came in handy as I used the breathing technique to make the shot.
The brightness and glare were too much to combat using aperture and shutter speed alone so I added the filters until I could make a good exposure at a good shutter speed that was much greater than the focal distance.

The sixteenth in a series of nineteen waterscape photographs chosen by the developers of Coast Apartments in my home town of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. The large black and white prints grace the walls of the foyers, gymnasium and lift on permanent display in the luxury complex.

The series gives the viewer a journey from the Hastings River, that runs through the town and down the coast to The Gap at Diamond Head Beach in the Crowdy Bay National Park.
