SW Colorado

Description

I was very fortunate to be driven to a 9200 ft mountain top in SW Colorado last month where there wasn't much up there except incredible beauty and two mountain lions fighting (across the canyon thankfully). In fact, the last 1o minutes of the trip was on the back of a 4-wheel ATV with my gear bag in a milk crate, bungeed to the vehicle. I wish everyone could see the beauty up there.

ANYWAY, the photo: the canyon leads SW towards Utah which isn't all that far away. That's La Sal Mountain in the background to the left. We got there right before sunset with the intent to get a sunset image. I would have preferred some clouds and a dramatic sky, but this was still great to see.

Seven exposures (1/100 to 0.6) all at f/14, merged in Photomatix then tweaked to get rid of the HDR look. Canon 16-35mm lens @28mm, no filters (sun rays from long exposure at small aperture, and HDR enhances it even further).

Exif: F Number: 14, ExposureTime: 1/12 seconds, ISO: 100, FocalLength: 28.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Thanks all! Wow, is Colorado photogenic, I wouldn't mind living there at ALL. I could imagine what all this looks like once snow falls... I do know what snow is actually, I'm not a Phoenix native. ;-) #9803869

Beautiful sunset capture. Always great to find those perfect conditions (either low or high clouds to reflect the sun), but in the absence, you shoot with what you got. And you did a great job here!! #9905050
