Description

These little guys are hard to photograph as they're skittish and won't sit still for more than a fraction of a second. It required several shots to end up with one keeper. I had to crop in fairly tightly as the lower part of his body was obscured by a very large boulder he was sitting on and because of the relatively close distance at the focal length, it was a distracting blur. Rocky Mountain National Park. Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM at 400mm. 1/800 sec. f/5.6. ISO 400.

Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/800 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 400, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 400.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

Thanks Christine. At some of the turnouts on the road across the mountains, these things were plentiful and tend to be more tame. They will come close enough to touch you and stand up and apparently beg for food. Though the Park Service tries to discourage people from encouraging them, people will be shooting all the time. There too they are hard to shoot because of their movements. The one I shot here was indeed wild as it was out in the woods and definitely was not going to let us get close. #9691560
