Artist’s Statement…Ann Lyssenko
It has been a life journey for me to come to this place, to write an artist’s statement. I have up until now, not considered myself an artist. I have always known that I was a musician. I suppose I have owned music making in my life. Now I own photographic artistry as well. Both are activities and the doing of them grants the doer the right to be called artist or musician or anything else that one does for that matter.
Two years ago, I had cataract surgery allowing me to see again. The world took on a magical quality. Memories of what things had looked like combined with the reality of what they were. Colors returned at times yelling at me to notice them. I began to know better where I was. With that knowing, I also began to know better who I was and what I wanted my new life of seeing to be.
Seeing has not taken on a literal quality. Like my writing it hangs in the metaphors, the paradox between reality and illusion. SHAPESHIFTING is a product
