Leading the charge

Description

This image from a re-enactment in Long Beach needed a leader. So I moved the mounted officer from another area and placed him where he was needed.

A tight crop, some textured layering, multiply blending and selective cloning completed the shot.

Wow! SUPERB relocation work. Fabulous work...though my "jury" is still out on the dark vignetting. It does have the feel of cannon smoke, though. Your editing is SPOT on, Dale. #1403101

Dale Hardin August 23, 2011

Thanks Michelle. I'm not a fan of vignetting either and only used it because it was part of this texture I wanted and I was too lazy to look for something else. :o)

Here is the original shot and as you can see it would have been OK had it not been for that one lone figure in front of the horse. He was too difficult to remove so decided to tighten up the comp instead by moving the rider. #9622641

I'm just now seeing your editing explanation, Dale, while congratulating you on the Finalist award. Wow...I never would've thought of moving the rider, but you took a good shot and ade it a superb work of skill and artistry.

Congratulations! #9691072

Love the action you caught here with the officer's sword raised and just in front of Colonel Mann. So, are you back from your trip now? This coming Saturday is Marching thru History at Prado Park in Chino. #9693272

Dale Hardin September 25, 2011

Hi Robert. Just returned yesterday afternoon and will be leaving again in two days. Will be back October 3rd and then will have a bit of time to check out the images from that 5000 mile solo drive. #9693341
