Peek-a-boo

Uploaded: July 16, 2011

Description

With temperatures reaching and sometimes exceeding 100F here in North Texas, this guy liked to spread out on the cooler concrete patio deck which is in the shade. I shot this through the glass of the patio door from inside the house. Distance to him was maybe eight feet.

Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/50 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 500, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 400.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

Hi Dan,
What a great close up of this little visitor! So so clear...
how close was he?

Thanks Christine. I was about seven or eight feet away. I was on the inside shooting though the patio door glass. I was lying on my stomach on the floor inside so I would be at his level. The shot was at 400mm and I cropped in a little to bring it even closer.

Since it was shady, the light wasn't that bright on the floor of the covered patio. I upped the ISO to 500 and the shutter speed was still only 1/50 sec with the aperture wide open (f/5.6). At that slow shutter speed for the focal length, IS helped as well as did my supporting the lens with my elbows on the floor so the motion blur was kept to a miniumum. I would have liked a little deeper DOF but that was about all I could get. #9536805

Excellent capture considering the light conditions you have described. well done.
We just had one helping itself to paper from a roll of kitchen paper that my husband left out by the BBQ ! #9539137

Thanks Jean, they're fun to observe. Just the entertainment value even if you don't get a lot of pictures is fun. #9539689

Hello Dan: Great capture, I like the expression in his eyes which usually gets lost in the transition. Merna #9547721
