Cooper's Hawk

Uploaded: June 26, 2011

Description

This Cooper's Hawk has become a frequent visitor of the birdbath in our back garden. His interest is obviously the bird feeder hanging there and his interest is not the sunflower seed in the feeder.

The challenge of this shot was that it had to be made through the glass of our kitchen window which is double pane. The shot was at an angle through the glass which can cause some loss of light and definition. Still, we make the best of what we can get.

Exif: F Number: 5.6, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/125 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 400, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 400.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 40D

well no matter how much glass you had to shoot through, this is an awesome clear crisp capture!! I wish I could have him visit me! #1388575

Thanks Dawn. Well you don't want him being a regular visitor. When he's present, the songbirds, all birds and squirrels, go on holiday. He's there looking for a meal. :-) #9490651

Well captured, Dan.
I find the pose more interesting and the composition better here than in the previous shot. #9490877

I'm always amazed at how clear shots can come out when shot through glass. I have one photo that I did through glass and someone asked to buy it. I couldn't believe it. It's a very nice capture Dan. What a great subject too!!!

Thanks Christine and Misty. Well sometimes it requires a little "help" to result in the clear crisp shots you referred to. :-) No telling from my end though. #9492443
