Please critique,Do you think contrast is too high? Anything else? #305379

Katrina McMeans September 05, 2005

Great composition! I'm probably not the right one to be saying if an image has too high contrast because I LOVE contrast...but really, I don't think this one is too strong at all. It IS strong...kind of jumps out at you...but I think it suits this picture pretty good.
Love it!

Katrina,
Thanks for the comments. I checked out your gallery, You do good work, I really like "Getting Ready to Ride" and the sunset out your back yard.- Mike #1812067

Thomas Trostel September 08, 2005

Hi Mike,

The contrast appears great to me. It appears the picture was taken in the or from the shady side of the storehouse. It would be interesting to see the same composition durring the golden hour (sunrise or sunset) to see how the shadows and different light change the texture of the bricks and wood.

Nicely done :-)

Tom,
Thanks for the comments, The shot was taken on a day that was switching from blue sky to blown out colorless sky.
I would like to reshoot all shots taken that day. I agree with you about the golden hour.Lighting had always been an issue with me but lately I am paying greater attention to it. I like you shot "soldiers" For some reason when I shot it I felt that I needed to include the entire statue. Your comp is much better.- Mike

Mike,
Great shot! Love the colors! Also would make a cool b/w with the shadows darkened a bit.

Janet Friedman September 09, 2005

Nice photo Mike, It would also look great b/w with a touch of hand coloring to the inside of the window.

Mike

This is a great shot (I take ALOT of photos of windows, buildings with odd windows, windows with inside curtains tied in knots, outside of buildings with reflective windows - and I really like everything about this one) the bricklayer who set these bricks is an artist himself and YOU captured a great display. #1823070

Mike,
I would like to see this in B/W with a oblique shot from the right side.
To me that would more in keeping with the title.
The head on shot is not working.
I like the colors though, and I like the contrast.
Good Job

Regards,

Willard

I like both Mike; I can't say I like one better than the other. If I was pressed to choose, maybe the color one. Wonderful image though either way! #2753693

Mike Rubin May 11, 2006

Thanks Willard, I wish I could just run down to re shoot it, BUT it would be an expensive image @ $3.00/gal. :) #2753699

I really like the colors in this shot Mike. My opinion for what it is worth........I would like to see the window farther to the right and more brick work to the left. I find a little more eye apeal when the subject is a bit off center. #2753797

Mike Rubin May 12, 2006

Thanks Dennis, I wish it was closer so I could re-shoot it using the great suggestions I received here.- Mike #2757369

I LOVE contrast and in this case you gave an example of it in black and white. This image is great for black and white because of the dramatic contrasts. It really pops out and catches you attention. Great job, Mike!!! #3577765
