Description

All the excitement and tension of the race as these red hot Motocross riders battle it out during a heat in the Sunday competition.

Shot at the Hastings Valley Motor Cycle Club's track, six kilometers south of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia on a brilliant early winter day.

Canon EOS 40D & Canon 100-300mm USM Lens: RAW, Manual settings of 1/800sec @ f/5.6, 230mm, ISO 320, Servo mode, High speed multi-shot.

THE MAKING of 'Chasing 701':

When working out what to do on the weekend, photographically speaking, two Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mates and I decided to head off to the motocross races for the action, colour, noise and fumes of the day's race meeting.

The warm ups were almost over when we arrived and as the seniors were up nest for the start of their heats I headed off to my favourite place down near the start where I can get a great view of the double jumps as the rides head down hill. As panning is out of the question at that angle I settled in for a series of freeze action shots using my Canon's continuous focus and high speed multi-shot functions. I nailed this frame on the first lap while they were still bunched up.

Every visit to this track gives me a thrill and I have never come home empty handed. Getting multiple bikes airborne like this always makes it a special moment for me.

Mega Aussie thanks for your encouraging wrap for this piece of action.

Yup! LOads of fun. As I said in the narrative I can get caught up in the action, colour, noise and fumes of the day as well as a nice steak sandwich for lunch.

NICE SHOT Dennis... I love reading your commentary and explanations along with your images you capture!! This one would give me a thrill too if I could ever catch some of them in the air at the same time, lol!!!

G'day *CARLA* & *CHRISTINE*!!

So good to see you both leaning on the fence taking in the sights 'n' sounds of this hotly contested race.
Thank you sooooo much for the collective encouragement and support of your great feedback.

Carla: My problem is in selecting only the best of all the shots I made that day to upload to BP and the WEYG Club.

Christine: I may be wrong but I get the feeling you think the background has been 'dropped in'. I assure you this is not the case. If I ever do any digital hokey pokey I will admit it in my narrative. What I did do was make selective adjustments to each bike and rider to get them to 'pop'.
