Fireweed

Uploaded: April 14, 2011

Description

Gorgeous blooms of a Fireweed plant that popped up near an ash pile three months after we had a controlled windfall branch burning on our acreage in South West British Columbia, Canada. Apparently, Fireweed seeds will remain dormant for years and years awaiting the conditions they require to germinate ~ specifically, a fire opens access to sunlight.

Interestingly enough, the following year there wasn't a Fireweed to be seen anywhere on our acreage. Having a controlled burning pile here within the next four weeks so will be keeping a close eye near the ash pile this summer hoping to see this magnificent plant species pop up again.

Monthly Theme: Delicate
