Grand Prismatic Spring

Description

The spectrum of colors you see are from the thermophilic bacteria and algae that live in the water. Different species occupy different areas of the spring according to their temperature tolerances: blue-green species in the hottest portions of the spring, yellow in the warm areas, and orange and red species at the edges of the spring where the water is cooler. Midway Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park.
