On the Brazos

Uploaded: January 19, 2011

Description

----
There are two parks flanking the famous suspension bridge spanning the Brazos River in Waco, Texas. On the east side of the bridge is Martin Luther King Park, and on the west side is Indian Spring Park.
---
(from a Waco website): In 2008, the first pieces of the “Branding the Brazos” sculptors made their debut next to the bridge (on the west side). The towering Chisholm Trail sculptures, crafted by Robert Summers, include an oversized, bronze trail boss riding [sic--That's what the site says--he looks to be on a horse to me!]a longhorn. Additional art pieces and monuments also surround the bridge.

Being the proud Texan that I am, I could get into this quite nicely! I have, in fact, crossed that suspension bridge ... TWICE! I so love that sky, very nice treatments on this, Michelle!

Now I'll be humming "Cross the Brazos at Waco" all day ...

(Chorus)
Cross the Brazos at Waco
Ride hard and I'll make it by dawn
Cross the Brazos at Waco
I'm safe when I reach San Antone

On the Chisholm Trail it was midnight
Carmella was strong on his mind
Because of the life he had chosen
Carmella had left him behind
Too long he'd been a bandito
Carmella had left him alone
But today someone brought a message
She'd been seen in old San Antone

(Chorus)

Then the night came alive with gunfire
He knew that at last he'd been found
As the range of badges shone brightly
A bandit a lay on the ground
Carmella she knew he was dying
That all of her dreams were in vain
As she kissed his lips for the last time
She heard him whisper again

(Chorus)
