Description

THIS TIME OF YEAR SO MANY ANIMALS ARE LOST
And Alone And Cold and Hungry!
:) PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO HELP THEM! :)

* * * This Kitty's Story * * *
Around New Years Eve
I SAW THIS SAME ORANGE KITTY ROAMING THE COLD SNOWY STREET ALONE.
I Was Hoping He Was Just On His Way Home.
2 Days Ago I Found Him Trapped Under our Deck.
Humm...So...I made Him Food & A Bed On The Deck In A Warm Kennel...
HA! TODAY (As seen here) We had a CAT NAP on my bed!
HIM STARING AT ME, ME STARING AT HIM!
(Purring!)

Hubby Freaked Cuz We Have 3 Rescued Kitties Already. He KNOWS How it happens! :)))
Well, lucky for this kitty, he has a tattoo in is ear.
Hubby Took Him To The Local Vet Just A Little Bit Ago
AND THEY THINK THEY EVEN RECOGNIZE HIM!

A Happy Ending For This One!

Hi All! OM GOSH! Kitty! IS THIS WHY WE CALL YOU KITTY??? Is your real name Joan or Betty or Dorothy? HeeHee!

:D Wait till I tell hubby that having 3 is NOT A LOT!

You sisters are both saints!

Actually I'd love to take more in, too, but I am allergic to kitties. So THREE hardly makes sense but I love them with all of my heart. It feels wonderful to rescue animals and give them a good home. WONDERFUL. :)

Thank you Paddy (Glad this warmed your heart), and thank you Jeff :). Tammy (GOOD FOR YOU GIRL!xo), Amanda, so do you!, Christine (I have thanked him for YOU before. For sure! And YES! I wonder if the owners will be told who we are so we can do this. I'll put in a call tomorrow to the VETS!), Wm, why am I not surprised??? :) ?, Thank you Renata!

Thank you all! So good to see you here enjoying my new little friend. I hope that by tomorrow night he will be back home where he belongs. I pray he has a loving family there.

Lol...Oh YAH! You have that right Ron! FEAR in his eyes! Probably thinking "MORE CAT FOOD?, MORE VET BILLS?, LESS VACATIONS?!" Yes. Dale got the cage out in a hurry as I had twinkles in my eyes for keeping the kitty! HA! ... But truly I knew I couldn't keep him. Was thrilled to see the tattoo in it's ear!

Sorry I had missed your comment. I was typing the above. :)

Good to hear the story has a happy ending. I recently tried to befriend a handsome Siamese that started hanging around but CT screamed at him through the screendoor so loud one night, he took off never to be seen again. Out of my 6 cats, Kody is the only one not rescued!! A lovely story & image, good work=^..^= #9161987

The story was so beuatiful to read. Had it not been for your kindness, it ma well have had a different ending, not a very happy one. You my friend, are so right about the need for us to show some kindness for these poor animals that so often are discarded and left to fend for themselves or die.
Such a beautiful cat, love the way it is looking at you, enjoying the warth of the place you make for it. And your hubby did such a loving thing in taking it to the vet and finding its owner. You both deserve a special thanks from all of us animal lovers.
Beautiful work my friend. #9162329

Eric Clapton's song Kind Hearted Woman works good here Laura.
I think all the cats in the hood know you are a push over lol..
My sister would love your happy ending story. She once pulled over and ran across 4 lanes of traffic at rush hour and rescued a kitten that had been tossed out of a car and hit. She took it to the vet and they had to remove his back leg. He was with my sister for about 15 years, we all thought that he knew what she had done for him because he was so close to her. #9162575

Awww! He is adorable!! I'm so happy to read your story, MSSSLala. I'm so happy that you saved him and that your hubby didn't freak out completely (HAHA!) - I would have loved to see his face). And I'm also loving that you don't now have 4 cats! Some of your kitties might not have approved!
And it's a very beautiful portrait!! #9162719

Hi Everyone. I have ~SO~ enjoyed all of your comments and stories to add here. :)

* * * I HAVE AN UPDATE! I Just Called The Vet! * * *

I have great news and NOT so great news. They found the owners of this precious kitty! They came and got him and took him home!!!

YIPPEEEEEE!!!!

The bad news..."HOME". The owners live on an acreage....(WOW! He must have been gone a while!) And they consider him a "Year Around Outdoor Cat" which in many climates is perfectly great. Kitties grow nice thick fur to keep hem warm in the winter and usually it's fine...but this is CANADA. It's ALMOST ALASKA! Or the NORTH POLE!

It is -25*c here and has been nearly this for many many days. At -22 (Around -9*f?) ANY ANIMALS paws (Dog or cat) and ears and nose, etc., can and will get frost bite if they have no place of refuge. This kitty didn't even have any food to keep him warm. Just mice maybe and birds?

It plummets to -45* here...How can any animal be considered a year around outdoor animal? Without at least a barn with cows to stay warm with, I would consider this animal cruelty!

The girl at the VETS said "So don't be surprised if you see him again!"

Am I just a city girl that doesn't understand? What about -22* and worse giving any dog or cat frost bite?!

Okay. Done venting and off my soap box.

I said about the same to the gal on the phone...She just seemed happy they found the owners. Didn't seem to care about anything else either way.

(sigh)...

Thanks for your kind comments and for your support of the Little Orange Kitty.

-Laura :)))

This broke my heart. I feel so bad for the cat. I can't understand why people leave animals in the cold. I have 2 cats I try to help here too. I feed them and gave them a bed. I would take them in, but I have a cat and 3 dogs....2 of the dogs I rescued too. I wish he could have stayed with you. Beautiful cat and image......you have a good heart. #9163758

Really beautiful capture Laura!! I so agree with your message here. Early this week I was out driving coming back from taking pictures and saw a couple of tiny puppies. That closest house was over a mile away and these things couldn't hardly walk because they were still in the awkward stage. By the time I got my car stopped and could get out they had hidden in the weeds. I didn't find them before it got dark, and wound up looking for the next two days for them. I hope the rabbit hunter's beagles I saw sniffed them out. I've wound up losing all kinds of sleep thinking about if they would survive the cold. I can't even tell you how mad I was at whom ever thought they were giving them a chance, at 8-9 weeks old not a chance. Grrrr. #9163759

Wonderful image, poem, story, and sentiments, Laura! I have had the same thing happen a couple of years ago and now Bootsie is in the house curled up purring! Also have had an orange cat come the same way as yours in the past. My (then) wife and I named the cat L'orange (french version, sp?). I think it is simply a responsibility as a human to be caretakers of the animals of the world. Just my feelings! Wonderful visit to your gallery!!! #9164197

There are so many good people....Sad, about the puppies, Tommy. How did they take off so fast? I hope someone found them.....I found 3 puppies last year too. I also saved a bird that landed on my shoulder from the cold. It was 55 that day and then 22 that night. He would have died as he was a tropical bird....We still have him. He loves my husband. :) #9164922

I love hearing all of your stories and really appreciate all the kind comments, too! :)

I think some folks just dont know how much the animals CAN suffer. Many think they can survive ANY TEMPS but they just can't! And their extrmities are always in danger under -22c (or about -7*f or so)...

Wonderful to hear the rescue stories. :)))

-Laura :D xoxo

(Still smiling over L'Orange!) I thought if we kept this kitty we'd name him "O.C."...Orange Cat :D #9165033

From one cat lover to the next --- you know I'm very proud of you, Pom, for taking him in, AND for giving him the chance to reconnect with his owners. Your follow-up about those owners considering him a "year-round outdoor cat" in Canada makes me grind my teeth.

Thank goodness for YOUR attitude (or, perhaps, catitude), Kiddo. All we can hope for now is that this lovely orange fellow blows off those so-called owners and heads straight back to your place!
Cute capture, by the way. #9182676

Laura E. Swan level-classic January 21, 2011

Mare...if only I could take them all in. They put down about 3000 kitties each year in my city, alone. I can't stand it to think of it. Many many doggies are put down, too. VERY terrible.

Two years ago we took a VERY SCRUFFY skinny long haired black kitty in and she lived in our basement level for just over a week. WARM, DRY and SAFE. I'd go down and see her many times a day. She had tons of food and toys and even catnip (on Friday nights only! HA! JJ) But it was no life for her being alone down there. She was so darned cute and sweet. She needed a family. So a wonderful "NO KILL" society took her in because she looked so terrible and matted up. They are more willing to help the ones that are the worst off...

The local VET shaved her matted fur off for free then the NO KILL society put her on a website and she waited for only about a month and a family took her right in after they read her story.

That organization is called "The Meow Foundation"...I had named her "Matty-Cat" because she was so MATTED! HA! She actually ran to me when I'd call her "Matty". Wish I could have kept her. WOW I loved her.

ANYWAY if the Little Orange one comes back here I will try and get my 92 year old father in law to take him in. I asked him to this last time and he said no but MAYBE he would if I tried a little harder next time :)))

Thanks dear lady and THANK YOU EVERYONE who has come here to read and contribute and even RE-VISIT! :)

Add your story if you have one! (OR MORE!)

I've been waiting for us to buy a house so I can rescue two cats. They live in a home where it's just not a great environment for cats. Hopefully we're in the house next week so I can have two cats. They have been together their whole lives (7 years) so I can't just take one. :) #9283313
