Gosh this looks like something from the CONGO! WOW! Sad that the fellow died while it was being built.

Very unique image, Brett, and such a cool glimpse of your surroundings. Hope the flooding doesn't wash it away! #9157620

Somehow reminds me (maybe because of the lush surrounds and the muddy river) of the Bridge on the River Kwai, from the movie. A beautiful capture, and I'm just trying to get everyone whistling the theme song. We had a pet cockatoo called "Yabbo" who whistled it quite well! #9157681

The front page of our newspaper (NZ) shows the flooding in Ipswich, only the tops of houses are showing, so much devastation and so heartbreaking. Your close neighbours are thinking of you all and hoping that the rains stop soon. This is a beautiful old bridge. I hope those waters don't rise anymore. #9158801

Brett, you captured this unusual suspension bridge just superbly, my friend!! Let's hope it doesn't experience any problems due to all the rain!! :o/

Thanks for the image of the historical plaque on the bridge, too - the info. is very interesting!! That was sad about the contractor, R B Haydon...I wonder what caused his demise...

It's hard to believe the DMR was still 'in action' back in '88...and the old NRMA insignia is a blast from the past, too!! ;o) Only 74 years ago could a bridge like this be built for £5,000!! ;o/ #9163678
