Smooth!

Description

This is a photo of the leader and saxophonist in an awesome Detroit area jazz band called Zamar. I did several shots of him standing with my camera on a tripod. I spent careful time positioning the lights etc. but never quite got that moody shot we were looking for. He sat down, I took my camera off the tripod and this is what we got. I particularly like the triangle of light under the right eye. I love Photoshop, but for this one I just worked on the RAW file directly in Picasa 3: Sepia, levels, film grain and finally soft focus. Finished in CS4 with a tad of "digital makeup" on the forehead to remove a tad of glare, but nothing too drastic. I truly believe in careful lighting preparation, but it never ceases to surprise me how good the "informal" ones turn out.

Exif: F Number: 11, Exposure Bias Value: 0.00, ExposureTime: 1/200 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 100, White balance: Manual white balance, FocalLength: 55.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi
