Avril Young December 28, 2010

wow, this is just so outstanding, what do you mean when you say umbrella flash, do you have a little studio??? your DD work is outstanding......mmm cannot hear any music tho :) #9130034

Graham Robards December 29, 2010

Hi there Avril, I took down the music. I guess I should leave it up as most folk know it isn't part of my entry by now. I'll put it back up then!

An Umbrella flash is used instead of having the flash mounted on the camera it's mounted on an umbrella stand and the flash fires through a transparent white umbrella. You can move the lighting around to where it suits best.

Yes we have a little studio, a room we use in summer that has some window lighting. Not long enough though but convenient and cool with the air conditioning on.

We have some backdrops which is handy which is why the photos all look the same lol. I have to imagine what to do with them. This one turned out a hoot didn't it.

Thanks for dropping in. ~Pat
ps. Train Coco to stay on a target, a mat if you will. The dogs are trained to a target. #9130131

Graham Robards December 29, 2010

LOL Chris, I changed the title to include if cats ruled the world too so Kody doesn't feel left out!

Thanks for your kind words. ~Pat #9130137

Avril Young December 29, 2010

thanks Pat, I must check out those umbrella ones, probably not found here in little old Albany, but will look around...will try Coco on a mat in future...your DD work and G's photography is outstanding you make a great team...

fantastic work!! #9130459

Graham Robards December 29, 2010

Thankyou Avril, have you trained Coco to a mat? I find it invaluable. Here is a link the is very good and shows you how.
I teach it this way but later on I may ask for different positions. In the birthday card shot for Barbara you can just see the target underneath the backdrop.

Annie offers me behaviours when on it. I ate my breakfast in front of her holding a remote shutter, that's how I got the "Little Shepherd" shot. She begged for some food lol.

Graham aims the camera keeping the dogs in frame. Cindy doesn't need a target, I just say "on your mat" to anything and she settles.

You most likely won't like the umbrella flash as it takes ten seconds inbetween shots.

Graham just ordered some equipment that is much faster but for animals gee you need to be quick.

Have missed a lot of shots with this thing Avril.

Avril Young December 29, 2010

thanks for the info Pat, Graham sure does take fantastic indoor photos...does the new equipment include a better umbrella, I see them often in stores, when someone is taking photos of children....thanks for the mat info too, will try it out on Coco....is your little one a jack russell, he is just so cute and so is Cindy of course...thanks for the music, who is singing it...love it...thanks again, have a wonderful day.. #9131572

Graham Robards December 31, 2010

Hi there Avril, the new equipment is a new battery pack to recycle the flash faster.

Yes, Annie is a little rough coated Jack Russell, we brought her over from New Zealand as they aren't as fussed over the markings as Australia. The standard calls for predominately white with a tan head.

Here is her little target that she learnt to jump on when she was a little pup. I get it out and put it next to the computer desk and treat her when she is on it.

You can't have one like this for Coco though LOL.

Roger Whittaker is singing the music!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Damn, I forgot to say Kody was very pleased with cats being included in our new modern thinking world!!! If only, it could be so good=^..^= #9136256

Graham Robards January 01, 2011

LOL, I am glad that Kody was pleased that cats were included in our new modern thinking world.

Wouldn't it be so good Chris, hope you are well!

Graham Robards January 01, 2011

Hi there Avril, yes I made it myself, it is an old plastic box with foam rubber inside and a blankie.

I find if the target is raised in the beginning it is more obvious. It generalises pretty quickly to anything else.

Hayy New Year friend! ~Pat #9137453

I love Cindy's expression: "What did I do to deserve this?" Your pups are always fun to see through your eyes & creativity, Pat & Graham! #9178193
