National Mall: Washington Monument

Uploaded: October 16, 2010

Description

While my husband is recuperating from a gun shot wound while serving in Afghanistan, we are currently stationed at Walter Reed in Washington, D.C. Even though he is in a wheelchair and slightly mobile on crutches, he wanted to visit all the monuments at the National Mall.

Being an American History Geek, I am moved and more than a little photo-happy each and every time we go downtown amidst the historic monuments and buildings. This is actually my very first visit to Washington, D.C.

So, I will be sharing a bunch of my snaps from this trip as I get time to go through them.

What is particularly unique about this shot is that we visited and went up in the monument on the day the Washington Monument was celebrating it's 122nd birthday of being opened to the public :-)
