First Stand At First Light
Uploaded: September 22, 2010
1/500th second @ f. 5.6 in early morning sunlight. In the night, this North Carolina Outer Banks Wild Pony had given birth to her precious foal on the shoreline of Shackleford Banks within range of the bright beam of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. I entered this image in the Nature and Landscapes Division because it is out in the wild on the barrier banks. Because it was September not many boaters were in this remote area so I am sure I was the first to witness this priceless first stand at first light. Inspiring.

I looked at your photo for many long minutes then read your commentary - what emotional impact!.... and how lucky you were to witness this incredible moment and to capture it so beautifully and describe it so sensitively...Well done, Kerry, on all counts! #8926436Kerry W. Willis September 23, 2010
Thanks Valarie for your kind comments. It was a special moment. I feel blessed beyond measure. ALL JOY! #8926444Suzanne Charette January 08, 2011
This is so neat!!! Mares usually give birth at night to reduce the risk of her or her foal being attacked by predators and the faster they can get on their feet, the better. This little colt/ filly acts like it was no trouble at all!! :) #9150662Kerry W. Willis January 08, 2011
It was early morning, so the foal had probably been born near daylight? An amazing moment. ALL JOY! #9150707Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
