Cicada Molting Process - Image #6

Uploaded: September 16, 2010 20:58:07

Description

A little over a month ago I got to watch several cicadas go through the molting process.
These images probably won't win any awards, but I found the process very interesting so I took many shots.

The sixth image I like to call "Coming Out". At one point during the molting process, the cicada must pry itself from its old skin. I am amazed that the empty skin remains attached to the tree even when more leverage is applied to it.

:-)

Comments welcome and appreciated!
