SaddleBack Caterpillar
Uploaded: September 08, 2010
Not common to our area but I found this on Labor day right here in my parent's back yard. I found it when my little nephew started screaming that he'd been stung by a bee. It turned out to be this caterpillar. The sting causes severe burning and pain, it also can make one nauseated, which ruined the picnic for the poor little guy. He recovered after a night of having a sick tummy.

Great shot, Carol...you can see right away how this fella got his name. Their sting is very painful...I was on the receiving end once. Glad your little nephew is feeling better after his run-in with this nasty guy. Excellent detail and color - good job! #1306037Danny B. Head September 08, 2010
Down south, we called them "Pack-saddles" (we make stuff up, you know). lol. As a kid, I would run through the sugar cane patch.... so fun until you crossed paths with one of them. Nicely done! #8888467Liz blahh September 08, 2010
