Description

Since I have been trying to get this image right since our first assignment, I ended up working on this until 0430 this morning and couldn't quite figure out what was wrong. I finally realized that there was no reflection of the sky on the water. I added that in and it seemed to help.
So here are the steps that I did with this image: I used Quick Mask to make a selection (after partial selection with the Quick Select tool in CS5). I replaced the sky with a more dramatic sky. I used Nik Color Efex Tonal Contrast for both the sky and boat. I cut out a copy of the sky, inverted it and added it into the water with a blending mode of "Overlay" I added an Inverted Mask and painted in the "reflection" on the ocean. I then used a Gaussian Blur filter on the mask to soften the mask (this took me forever to figure out). That gave me a subtle coloration in the water. I then used Viveza 2 to lighten the waves somewhat in alignment with the light patch of sunset in
